The artist ponders the textured nature and concept of time in Untitled 2017 (It’s Friday, It’s a mess after M. D.) (2017) with a distilled motif of the moon, clock or sundial. Alluding to the experience of time in its title, the work engineers a poetic journey where the past, present and future converge. Donned in gold foil, the print echoes time portals where the vastness of time collapses into a single encounter.
Time travel has been a critical element in Tiravanija’s work; he has not only used elements from popular culture as metaphors, but he has also utilised language as a means to unlock the imagination and facilitate a deeply personal understanding of the subject. Inspired by H.G. Wells’ dystopian novel ‘Time Machine’, Tiravanija constructed narratives of time and space in a series of time portals for his collaborative STPI project in 2014.
The Collector's Edition marks fifteen years of celebrated collaborations between STPI and its artists.
