Woodcut print on rice paper
Edition of 15, 5 AP
28.5 x 29 cm
Collaborating with the Creative Workshop team at STPI, Han reinvigorated her creative approach with new material possibilities in the in-house paper mill. Exchanging her signature stone and marble medium for print and paper, explorations of pulp and relief printing – most recently Hydrologic Impact (2019) – were materialised.
In line with Han's use of the motif and metaphor of the forest, this intricate woodcut print on rice paper features a heavily textured natural terrain. A centrally placed chasm of darkness provides an unexpected dimensionality to the work, and seem to echo Han's persistent longing for a more metaphysical or spiritual interaction with the radically changing landscape. Han’s treatment of landscape and foliage pulsates with life, resistance, and a tendency towards propogation – its power residing in its formidable energy and mysterious quality.
The Collector's Edition marks fifteen years of celebrated collaborations between STPI and its artists.
