Papermaking Class: Pulp Manipulation with Text

Join us for an immersive papermaking class where we dive into the world of pulp manipulation. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to transform ordinary pulp into textural forms, infused with text cutouts and embedded materials for narrative depth.

Step 1: Introduction & Demonstration  

• Learn about the history and basics of papermaking, including pulp selection and preparation 

Step 2: Pulp Manipulation   

• Dive into hands-on demonstrations of different pulp manipulation methods, such as layering and folding 

Step 3: Embedded Materials 

• Discover how to embed various materials, such as fabric scraps, leaves or threads, into the pulp for added texture and visual interest 
• Explore the creative possibilities of incorporating text cutouts into your paper, experimenting with unique placements 

Step 4: Drying and Finishing Touches 

• Watch a live demonstration of vacuum table and oven usage 
• Try your hand at using the vacuum table and oven to dry your paper 

No prior experience is necessary! Recommended for ages 12 and above.  

Participants are invited to bring printed texts or sentences to embed into the paper.
